Time To Sail

The Sail On Album is almost here!
In some ways it has been a long time coming. In some ways, we made it so quickly that I don’t feel I’ve really even got to know it as a collection of songs yet. But I am overjoyed to share it with you.
It is a live album. Sometimes “live” albums are not really “live” at all. They may be initially recorded live, but are often overdubbed and edited and mixed so much that all that’s left of the original recording is the ambient sound and the applause.
But, I felt that, in some ways, my integrity as an artist is at stake here. I believe that if an album is called “Live”, it should be live. In today’s world of autotune and photoshop and highly edited material, I feel like we are so often presented with images and music that are not honest.
And so we made a conscious decision not to overdub. Not to over-edit. Not to auto-tune. Of course we cut out a little of the talking in between songs. And I did have to do some of the songs twice due to a very strange sound issue!. But the sound that you are hearing is truly what was recorded on the night. It is truly me.
For me, it feels perhaps almost a little too raw. A couple of notes are slightly bent. It’s not a polished performance. But the energy; the adrenaline that is captured because of the live setting beats anything I would ever have recorded in the studio. I push myself to the limits, I’m on the edge, and you can just feel it!
